Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 4 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Add butter and cut in until mixture resembles pea-sized crumbs.
  4. Press two-thirds of the mixture into the pan to form the crust.
  5. In another bowl, toss apples with lemon juice, cornstarch, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  6. Spread apple mixture over crust evenly.
  7. Sprinkle remaining crumble mixture over the apples.
  8. Bake for 45–50 minutes until the top is golden and filling is bubbling.
  9. Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars.
