Beef Braciole is a traditional Italian dish featuring thin slices of beef, rolled with a flavorful stuffing of breadcrumbs, cheese, garlic, and herbs, then simmered in a rich tomato sauce. It’s a comforting and hearty meal perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large beef steaks (about 1/2 inch thick)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
  • Kitchen twine or toothpicks to secure the rolls

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lay the beef steaks flat on a cutting board. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, garlic, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix until well combined.
  4. Spread the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of each beef steak.
  5. Roll the steaks up tightly and secure with kitchen twine or toothpicks.
  6. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the beef rolls on all sides, about 5-7 minutes total.
  7. If using, deglaze the pan with white wine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Pour the marinara sauce over the beef rolls, then cover the skillet.
  8. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, until the beef is tender and the flavors have melded.
  9. Remove the beef braciole from the oven, discard the twine or toothpicks, and sprinkle with fresh basil.
  10. Serve the beef braciole with the marinara sauce spooned over the top. Enjoy with pasta, bread, or a side salad!

Notes

  • You can make the braciole ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before baking.
  • If you prefer, you can also cook the braciole in a slow cooker. Brown the beef rolls first, then add the sauce and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
  • Feel free to adjust the seasoning or add other herbs like oregano or thyme to the breadcrumb mixture for extra flavor.
