Ingredients

For the Biscuits:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 1½ cups buttermilk (or substitute: 1½ cups milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar)

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries 🫐

For the Butter Bath:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted 🧈

Optional Toppings:

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

  • Lemon zest (for a citrusy twist)

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat the Oven

    • Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).

    • Lightly grease or line an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish with parchment paper.

    2. Melt the Butter

    • Melt ½ cup unsalted butter in the microwave or on the stovetop.

    • Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish, ensuring it coats the bottom evenly.

    3. Prepare the Biscuit Dough

    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

    4. Add Wet Ingredients

    • Pour buttermilk into the dry ingredients.

    • Stir gently until just combined (batter will be thick and slightly lumpy).
🚨 Do not overmix! Overmixing makes the biscuits tough.

    5. Fold in Blueberries

    • Gently fold in the blueberries. If using frozen blueberries, add them directly from the freezer (no need to thaw).

    6. Assemble & Bake

    • Pour batter directly into the butter-filled baking dish.

    • Spread evenly to the edges.

    • Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 9 equal squares.

    • The butter will rise around the edges, creating a delicious crispy crust.

    7. Add Toppings (Optional)

    • Sprinkle 1 tablespoon sugar on top for extra sweetness.

    • Add lemon zest for a citrusy kick.

    8. Bake

    • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

    • Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

  • Reheating: Warm in the microwave for 10–15 seconds or in a 300°F oven for 5 minutes.

  • Serving Suggestion: Drizzle with honey or maple syrup for extra indulgence
