Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or chunks
  • Flaky sea salt, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth and shiny.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks.
  7. Use a cookie scoop to place mounds of dough onto the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until edges are set but centers are soft.
  9. Remove from oven and sprinkle with flaky sea salt if using. Cool on pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Don’t overbake – cookies should look slightly underdone in the center.
  • Use high-quality cocoa and chocolate for the richest flavor.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
