Ingredients
- Russet Potatoes: 2 pounds, peeled and thinly sliced
- Heavy Cream: 2 cups
- Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
- Salt: 1 teaspoon
- Black Pepper: 1/2 teaspoon
- Gruyère Cheese: 1 cup, shredded
- Cheddar Cheese: 1 cup, shredded
- Fresh Thyme: 1 tablespoon, chopped
- Butter: 1 tablespoon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter
- In a bowl, toss the sliced potatoes with cream, garlic, salt, and pepper
- Spread a layer of potatoes in the dish, sprinkle on both cheeses and a little thyme, then repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top
- Press the layers down gently to settle evenly
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 20 minutes until golden and bubbly
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving and sprinkle extra thyme for freshness
- Scoop warm portions and enjoy the crispy top with creamy layers underneath
