Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  5. In a small bowl whisk milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  6. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and gently mix until a dough forms.
  7. Shape the dough into a round disc and cut into 8 triangles.
  8. Place the scones on the baking sheet.
  9. Bake for about 15 minutes until golden.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Keep butter cold for flaky texture.
  • Do not overmix the dough.
  • Chill the shaped scones for 10 minutes before baking for better structure.
