Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: extra sugar for rolling the dough balls

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • Cream Butter and Sugar:
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add Eggs and Vanilla:
    • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and beat until well combined.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined.
  • Fold in Chocolate Chips:
    • Gently fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula or wooden spoon until evenly distributed.
  • Form Dough Balls:
    • Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and, if desired, roll them in extra sugar for a sparkling finish.
  • Bake:
    • Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
    • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers are still soft.
  • Cool:
    • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a crispy exterior, bake the cookies for an extra minute.
  • The optional sugar coating will give them a beautiful sparkle and added sweetness.
