Ingredients

  • Baked Cake: 1 box (or homemade) of chocolate, vanilla, or red velvet cake, fully cooled
  • Frosting: 1/3 to 1/2 cup of buttercream or cream cheese frosting
  • Candy Melts or Chocolate Chips: 2 cups in various colors
  • Coconut Oil or Shortening: 1 tablespoon
  • Sprinkles and Colored Sugar: Assorted for decoration
  • Lollipop Sticks: About 20
  • Styrofoam Block or Cake Pop Stand: For holding pops upright while they set

Instructions

  1. Crumble the cooled cake into a large bowl and mix in frosting until it becomes a moldable dough.
  2. Roll into 1-inch balls and place on a parchment-lined tray.
  3. Dip lollipop sticks in melted chocolate and insert halfway into each ball.
  4. Freeze the cake pops for at least 20 minutes.
  5. Melt the candy melts or chocolate with coconut oil until smooth.
  6. Dip each chilled cake pop into the coating, tapping off excess.
  7. Immediately add sprinkles before the coating sets.
  8. Place upright in Styrofoam to dry completely.

Notes

  • Freeze shaped cake balls before dipping to prevent crumbling.
  • Use oil-based food coloring for smooth chocolate coating.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for longer shelf life.
