A classic and creamy dip, perfect for parties, gatherings, or a quick snack. This French onion dip is made with caramelized onions, sour cream, and mayonnaise, creating a rich and savory flavor with a touch of sweetness from the onions. It’s best served chilled for the perfect party dip!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh chives (optional)

Instructions

  • Caramelize the Onions:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chopped onions, salt, pepper, and sugar (if using).
    • Cook, stirring occasionally, for 20-25 minutes until the onions are deeply caramelized and golden brown.
    • Remove from heat and let the onions cool.
  • Make the Dip:
    • In a bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir until smooth and well-mixed.
  • Fold in the Onions:
    • Add the cooled caramelized onions to the dip mixture and fold until well combined.
  • Chill the Dip:
    • Refrigerate the dip for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Serve and Garnish:
    • Before serving, garnish with chopped fresh chives (optional) for a burst of color and flavor.

  • This dip can be made a day ahead for extra flavor.
  • Serve with chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping.
