Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  • Peel the onions and cut off the tops, leaving the root intact. Cut each onion into quarters vertically, stopping just before the root, so they stay together.
  • In a shallow bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.
  • Dip each onion into the flour mixture, coating evenly, then into the egg mixture, and back into the flour mixture, ensuring all surfaces are covered.
  • Place the coated onions in a single layer in the air fryer basket, and spray lightly with cooking spray.
  • Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove from the air fryer and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can use regular onions instead of sweet onions, but they may have a stronger flavor.
  • For extra crunch, lightly spray the onions again halfway through cooking.
  • Try pairing these blooming onions with ranch dressing, spicy aioli, or a tangy BBQ sauce for dipping!
