Crispy, golden, and dusted with powdered sugar, these Funnel Cake Bites are a bite-sized twist on the classic fair treat! 🎡✨ Light and fluffy inside with a crispy exterior, they are perfect for parties, carnivals, or a fun homemade dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour 🌾

  • ¼ teaspoon salt 🧂

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder 🥄

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 🍚

  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg 🌰

  • 2 eggs, beaten 🥚

  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream 🥛

  • 1½ cups whole milk 🥛

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 🍦

  • 4 tablespoons salted butter, melted 🧈

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil 🛢️

  • Shortening or oil for frying (at least 3 inches deep)

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting 🍭

Instructions

1. Heat the Oil

  1. In a stockpot, Dutch oven, or deep frying pan, add enough oil or shortening to be at least 3 inches deep.

  2. Attach a food thermometer and heat the oil over medium-high heat to 375°F (190°C).

2. Prepare the Batter

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking powder, sugar, and nutmeg.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs until foamy.

  3. Stir in cream, milk, vanilla extract, melted butter, and oil.

  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until well combined.

3. Fry the Funnel Cake Bites

  1. Using a ladle or tablespoon, drop small spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil.

  2. Fry until the bottom is golden brown, then flip and brown the other side.

  3. Remove using a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

4. Serve & Enjoy

 

  1. Dust with powdered sugar while still warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or drizzle with chocolate or caramel sauce. 🍫🍯

  • Maintain oil temperature at 375°F for the best results. Too hot, and they’ll burn; too cool, and they’ll absorb excess oil.

 

  • Best enjoyed fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven at 350°F for 5 minutes.
