Ingredients

Scale

For the Custard:

  • 1 package King’s Hawaiian Rolls
  • 2/3 cup half and half
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cubed

For the Filling:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling & Sugar Coating:

    • In a bowl, combine melted butter, ground cinnamon, and brown sugar to form a thick paste. Set aside.
    • In a separate bowl, mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the coating. Set aside.
  • Assemble the Rolls:

    • Slice the King’s Hawaiian Rolls in half horizontally. Spread softened cream cheese on both the top and bottom halves.
    • Evenly distribute the cinnamon-butter mixture over the cream cheese. Reassemble the rolls by placing the tops back on.
    • Place the assembled rolls in the refrigerator to chill for about 20 minutes.
  • Prepare the Custard & Dip the Rolls:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together half and half, beaten eggs, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
    • After chilling, dip each roll into the custard mixture for 15-30 seconds, ensuring they are thoroughly soaked but not falling apart.
  • Cook the Rolls:

    • Heat a large sauté pan over medium-low heat and add a cube of butter.
    • Place the custard-soaked rolls into the pan and cook in batches, frying each side until golden brown (approximately 4-5 minutes per batch).
    • After each batch, wipe the pan clean to prevent any burnt residue.

  • Coat & Serve:

    • Once fried, immediately toss the warm rolls in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
    • Serve the rolls warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For an extra indulgent treat, drizzle with cream cheese frosting or maple syrup before serving.

  • These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
