Start Valentine’s Day on a sweet and loving note with Heart-Shaped French Toast! This delightful breakfast combines fluffy, golden-brown French toast with sweet toppings that are sure to warm hearts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices of bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, for frying
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • Whipped cream, for topping
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Maple syrup, for drizzling

Instructions

  • Prep the Bread:
Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut hearts out of each bread slice. Save the scraps for another use (like croutons or bread pudding).
  • Make the Batter:
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
  • Dip the Bread:
Dip each heart-shaped bread piece into the batter, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side. Let any excess batter drip off.
  • Cook the French Toast:
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt 1 tbsp of butter. Place the soaked bread hearts onto the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining bread, adding more butter as needed.
  • Assemble and Garnish:
Arrange the French toast hearts on a serving plate. Top with sliced strawberries, a dollop of whipped cream, and a dusting of powdered sugar.
  • Serve:
Drizzle with maple syrup and serve immediately for a sweet and festive breakfast!

Notes

  • Feel free to add other toppings like chocolate chips or a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar for extra flavor!
  • For a fun twist, use different types of bread, like cinnamon or challah.
