Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 6 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the chopped chocolate, granulated sugar, heavy cream, light corn syrup, cocoa powder, and salt until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce should reach 220°F (104°C) on a candy thermometer.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the softened butter and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  4. Allow the hot fudge sauce to cool slightly before serving. It can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. To reheat, warm it over low heat on the stove or in the microwave, stirring occasionally.

Notes

  • For a smoother sauce, use high-quality chocolate bars instead of chocolate chips.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, reduce the cooking time slightly.
  • This hot fudge sauce can also be used as a dip for fruits like strawberries or bananas.
  • To make a peanut butter hot fudge variation, swirl in 1/4 cup of creamy peanut butter after removing the sauce from heat.
