Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Cream Cheese Filling:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

  • Make the Bread Batter:
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs, lemon zest, sour cream, lemon juice, and vanilla. Mix well.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  • Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling:
In a separate bowl, beat together the cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth.

  • Assemble the Bread:
Pour half of the batter into the greased loaf pan. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the batter. Then cover with the remaining bread batter.

  • Bake:
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Allow the bread to cool in the pan before slicing.

Notes

  • For extra lemon flavor, you can add a tablespoon of lemon juice to the cream cheese filling.
  • If you prefer a less sweet filling, reduce the sugar in the cream cheese mixture by a couple of tablespoons.
  • This bread can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days or refrigerated for longer freshness.
