Ingredients

  • 12 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Cook macaroni in salted boiling water until slightly tender then drain.
  3. Steam broccoli for 3 to 4 minutes until bright green.
  4. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat and whisk in flour. Cook for 1 minute.
  5. Slowly whisk in milk and cook until the sauce thickens.
  6. Stir in cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until melted.
  7. Combine cooked macaroni and broccoli with the cheese sauce.
  8. Transfer mixture to the baking dish and bake for 20 minutes until lightly golden.
  9. Let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving.

  • Use freshly shredded cheese for the smoothest sauce.
  • Slightly undercook pasta before baking so it stays tender.
