Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese sticks, cut into bite-sized pieces (or use fresh mozzarella balls)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks into 1-inch pieces or use mozzarella balls. Make sure the cheese is firm and chilled to prevent it from melting too quickly while frying.
  2. In three separate shallow bowls, place flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dredge each piece of cheese first in the flour, then dip it in the beaten eggs, and finally coat it thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat with all the pieces.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium heat. The oil should be about 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the cheese bites to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve the mozzarella bites hot, with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy the crispy, melty goodness!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can double dip the cheese bites (flour, egg, breadcrumbs, egg, breadcrumbs).
  • Be sure to keep the cheese as cold as possible to avoid melting too fast during frying.
  • You can also experiment with adding different herbs to the breadcrumb mixture, such as basil or thyme, for extra flavor.
