These fluffy, golden Old-Fashioned Pancakes are a classic breakfast favorite. Made with simple ingredients, they’re quick to prepare and perfect for a cozy morning with butter, syrup, or your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Make a Well: Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, and egg.
  • Combine Wet and Dry: Pour the wet ingredients into the well in the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing the batter.
  • Rest the Batter: Let the batter sit for about 5 minutes to relax the gluten, which helps create fluffier pancakes.
  • Cook the Pancakes: Heat a lightly greased griddle or frying pan over medium heat. Scoop about 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake onto the griddle. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until bubbles appear on the surface and the edges begin to set. Flip the pancakes and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Serve: Serve the pancakes hot with your favorite toppings such as butter, syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For fluffier pancakes, avoid overmixing the batter, as this can make them dense.
  • Add-ins like chocolate chips, blueberries, or bananas can be mixed into the batter for a fun twist.
