Ingredients

Scale

For the Dumplings:

  • 1 package round dumpling wrappers
  • 1 lb ground chicken, pork, or shrimp
  • 1 cup finely chopped napa cabbage
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper

For Cooking:

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water (for steaming)

For Garnish:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling:
    • In a large bowl, combine ground meat, cabbage, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and white pepper.
    • Mix until well combined and evenly distributed.
  • Assemble the Dumplings:
    • Place a dumpling wrapper on a clean surface. Add about 1 teaspoon of filling to the center.
    • Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half and pleat the edges to seal tightly.
    • Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  • Cook the Dumplings:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the dumplings in a single layer, flat side down.
    • Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
    • Carefully add 1/2 cup water to the skillet and immediately cover with a lid.
    • Reduce heat to medium and steam the dumplings for 5-6 minutes, or until the filling is cooked through.
    • Remove the lid and let any remaining water evaporate. Allow the bottoms to crisp up again for 1-2 minutes.
  • Serve:
    • Arrange the dumplings on a serving plate.
    • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Notes

  • Customization: You can use ground pork or shrimp for different flavor variations. Adjust the amount of ginger and garlic for a more fragrant filling.
  • Dipping Sauce: Serve with a simple dipping sauce made of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a dash of sesame oil.
  • Serving Suggestions: These dumplings are great as a main dish with steamed rice or as an appetizer before a Chinese meal.
