  • Total Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: 12 rolls 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 2 cups chopped strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk or cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add melted butter, eggs, cocoa powder, food coloring, and salt. Gradually stir in flour and knead until smooth.
  4. Cover and let dough rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
  5. Meanwhile, cook chopped strawberries, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch in a saucepan until thickened. Let cool.
  6. Roll dough into a rectangle. Spread cooled strawberry filling over it. Roll into a log and slice into 12 rolls.
  7. Arrange in the baking dish and let rise another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake 25–30 minutes until puffed and lightly golden.
  9. Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk into a glaze. Spread over warm rolls.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Let dough rise in a warm, draft-free space for best texture.
  • Chill the filling before rolling to prevent leaks.
  • Use floss to cut rolls neatly.
  • Add crushed freeze-dried strawberries on top for a pop of color.
