A savory, cheesy bread filled with spicy or mild sausage, perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side dish. The dough is rolled with sausage, cheese, and seasonings, then baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground sausage (spicy or mild, your choice)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese blend)
  • 1 loaf frozen bread dough, thawed (or homemade bread dough)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  • Cook the Sausage:
    • In a skillet, cook the ground sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease and let it cool slightly.
  • Prepare the Dough:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Roll out the thawed bread dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Assemble the Filling:
    • Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the rolled-out dough.
    • Spread the cooked sausage on top of the cheese.
    • If using, sprinkle green onions, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning over the sausage and cheese.
  • Roll and Seal:
    • Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log, pinching the seams to seal.
    • Place the rolled dough seam-side down on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Brush with Butter:
    • Brush the top of the bread with melted butter. For extra flavor, you can mix the butter with a pinch of garlic powder or Italian seasoning.
  • Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Cool and Serve:
    • Let the bread cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm, with a side of marinara or your favorite dipping sauce if desired.

Notes

  • You can add other fillings like mushrooms or bell peppers for extra flavor.
  • For a more golden top, you can brush the dough with egg wash before baking.
