Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine lukewarm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and softened butter. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch sheet pan with 1 tablespoon of melted butter.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to the prepared pan. Press the dough out to fit the pan, stretching it as needed.
  6. Brush the top of the dough with the remaining melted butter. Sprinkle with garlic powder, oregano, thyme, and grated Parmesan cheese.
  7. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, score the dough into 12 equal strips.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add minced garlic to the melted butter before brushing onto the dough.
  • These breadsticks can be served with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
