Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for spice)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare Shrimp: Rinse and pat shrimp dry. Soak in buttermilk for 15 minutes.
  • Mix Coating: Combine flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  • Coat Shrimp: Dredge each shrimp in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
  • Heat Oil: Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry Shrimp: Fry shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • Serve with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!

Notes

Adjust the spice level by adding more or less cayenne pepper. Serve with cocktail sauce or tartar sauce for an extra flavor kick.
