Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs ground chuck
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large onion (or 2 medium onions), diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons minced parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried sweet basil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 lb spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for boiling pasta)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Vegetables:
Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in an extra-large skillet over medium heat.
Add the diced onions and green bell pepper. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1–2 minutes, until fragrant.
  • Cook the Ground Chuck:
Add the ground chuck to the skillet with the vegetables. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain the excess grease.
  • Add Seasonings and Tomatoes:
Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, minced parsley, sweet basil, Italian seasoning, oregano, sea salt, and black pepper, mixing well to coat the meat.
Add the diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Stir until well combined.
  • Simmer the Sauce:
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Cook the Pasta:
In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the water to prevent sticking.
Cook the spaghetti for 7–8 minutes, or until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside.
  • Serve:
Toss the cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce or serve the sauce over the pasta. Garnish with freshly grated Parmesan or chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, let the sauce simmer for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Substitute ground turkey or Italian sausage for a variation in flavor.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
