  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of oil or a knob of butter
  2. In a bowl, soak breadcrumbs in milk. Mix with ground beef, ground pork, egg, onion, garlic, spices, salt, and pepper
  3. Form mixture into 1-inch meatballs and brown in batches in the skillet. Remove and set aside
  4. Melt butter in the skillet, stir in flour and cook 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in beef broth until thickened
  5. Lower heat, stir in heavy cream, return meatballs and simmer 8-10 minutes until cooked through
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning. Sprinkle with fresh parsley
  7. Serve over mashed potatoes, noodles, or enjoy on their own

Notes

  • Brown meatballs in batches to avoid steaming
  • Don’t overmix the meat to keep meatballs tender
  • Use fresh allspice and nutmeg for best flavor
  • Leftovers can be frozen and reheated gently
