Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup turkey drippings, strained
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 2 cups turkey or chicken broth, warm
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, adjust to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme, finely chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Place a medium saucepan over medium heat and allow it to warm gently.
- Add the butter and let it melt completely. Stir in the flour and whisk continuously for 2 to 3 minutes until lightly golden and slightly nutty in aroma.
- Slowly pour in the turkey drippings while whisking constantly to maintain a smooth texture.
- Gradually add the warm broth in small amounts, whisking well after each addition to keep the mixture silky.
- Let the gravy simmer gently for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- Stir in the salt, black pepper, and fresh thyme. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve warm over sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, or stuffing.
Notes
- Use warm broth to prevent lumps and ensure a smooth texture.
- If the gravy becomes too thick, whisk in a splash of warm broth to loosen.
- For an ultra smooth finish, strain before serving.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
