Ingredients
Scale
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup salted butter, softened
1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
1 large egg
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Instructions
Prepare the Dough: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar, light brown sugar, softened butter, and peanut butter until smooth and creamy.
Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined. Gradually mix in the flour and baking soda until a soft dough forms.
Shape the Cookies: Scoop about 1 tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball. Place the dough ball onto the prepared baking sheet. Use your thumb and index finger to pinch the bottom of the dough ball to form the “V” shape at the bottom of the heart. Use your hands to perfect the heart shape as needed. Optionally, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to refine the edges.
Add the Criss-Cross Pattern: Take a fork and press the dough down gently on each side to create a criss-cross pattern on the heart-shaped cookies.
Bake: Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the cookies are set. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve: Decorate with sprinkles or drizzle with melted chocolate if desired for an extra festive touch!
Notes
For an extra Valentine’s Day touch, you can sprinkle pink, red, or white sugar sprinkles on top before baking.
If you don’t have a cookie cutter, you can refine the heart shape by gently pressing the dough with your fingers.
