Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups milk, divided
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 45 medium Russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Season the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, then form into 6 patties.
  • Brown the beef patties in a skillet over medium heat, then set aside.
  • In the same skillet, whisk 1 cup of milk with the flour, then add the remaining milk to form a gravy.
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes and onions in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Place the beef patties on top of the potatoes and onions, then layer the remaining potatoes and onions over the patties.
  • Pour the gravy evenly over the layers.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  • Uncover the dish, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • For a more flavorful gravy, you can add a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce or beef bouillon to the milk mixture.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with a side of green beans or a fresh salad.
