This simple yet flavorful dish of tender baby bok choy is cooked in a savory garlic oyster sauce, making it a delicious side to any meal. It’s quick, easy, and packed with umami!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lb baby bok choy
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. Blanch the Bok Choy: Bring a pot of water and the salt to a boil over high heat. Add the baby bok choy and blanch for 1 minute. Remove from the water and set aside.
  2. Mix the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch and water until smooth. Add the oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, chicken bouillon powder, and sesame oil. Mix until fully combined.
  3. Cook the Sauce: Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Then add the prepared sauce and bring it to a simmer. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Serve: Place the blanched bok choy on a serving plate and pour the garlic oyster sauce over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!

  • For a spicier version, you can add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed rice or as a side to meat or seafood dishes.
