Heart Shaped Macaron Shells

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • a few drops food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Sift almond flour and powdered sugar together until smooth.
  3. Whip egg whites until foamy, gradually add granulated sugar and beat to stiff peaks.
  4. Fold dry ingredients into meringue, add vanilla and food coloring, mix until batter flows smoothly.
  5. Pipe heart shapes onto baking sheet.
  6. Let shells rest until dry to the touch.
  7. Bake for 14 to 16 minutes.
  8. Cool completely before removing and filling.
