These Butter Swim Biscuits are irresistibly tender, buttery, and simple to make. The secret? The dough swims in melted butter, creating golden, crispy edges with a soft and fluffy interior. Perfect for breakfast, dinner, or anytime you need a comforting, homemade bread!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk (regular or low-fat)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  • Prepare the Baking Dish:
Lightly grease an 8×8 or 9×9-inch square baking dish with nonstick spray. Pour the melted butter into the bottom of the dish, spreading evenly.
  • Make the Dough:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
    • Gradually stir in the buttermilk until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing.
  • Add Dough to the Dish:
    • Carefully scoop the dough into the baking dish with the melted butter. The dough will “swim” in the butter.
    • Spread the dough evenly with a spatula, ensuring it touches the edges of the dish.
  • Bake the Biscuits:
    • Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the biscuits to cool slightly in the dish before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder or shredded cheese to the dough.
  • Serve warm with honey, jam, or gravy for a delicious treat.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for the best texture.
